RSS feed“I have set up my Facebook fan page. Now what do I do?” I get this question a lot. Sounds familiar? If your expectation is to add thousands of fans each week, I hope you are a celebrity. If not you may want to follow these 5 ways to grow the number of people who ‘like’ your Facebook page. Be happy with a few new followers every day. It will get you where you want to be.
- Invite your friends and email list subscribers. Before you go ahead and send out a mass invitation, please realize that you only want to add those who are truly interested. Quality before quantity. In other words, you are better of with 300 people who have a vested interest in your topic over 5000 random people who could care less what you have to say and the products you sell.
- Add links to your fan page on all your virtual real estate. Think about your blog, your website, your email signature, your LinkedIn account, Twitter, and all other pages you can think of. If you have not already done so, make sure to get rid of the ugly looking URL with all the numbers. Get your own username for your page. - Create interesting and relevant content in the form of articles, photos and videos and tag some of your followers to let them know that you added relevant content. Encourage them to share your content on their wall, for their friends to see.
- Hold an event (webinar, contest etc.). Incentivize your fans for promoting your event for you. A popular event will draw fans to your fan page as you will get direct newsfeed exposure.
Your fans can notify their friends by visiting the event page and either clicking ‘share’ to post it to their profile or directly inviting their friends by clicking on the invite button on the right of the page. - Install a Facebook ‘Like’ Box on your website. Facebook has their own widget that you can place on any blog or website. This makes it very easy for new fans to join you on Facebook.For those of you who have never before installed a ‘Like’ box, here is a guide:
I am assuming that you already have a fan page. You go to the fan page and click on ‘edit page’.
Now that you are in edit mode, go to the middle column in the middle of the page. You will find a link, saying ‘Add a ‘like’ box’ under the header ‘promote your page’.
When you click on that link you will see the following form:
You can find the ID number in the URL at the top of your screen. Fill out all the information and click on ‘get code’. Select one of the two codes and copy to your clipboard. Next go to the dashboard of your blog and select ‘widgets’ from the left hand column. Select a text widget and add the code from the clipboard onto the widget. Save the changes and you are ready to go. You should have a like box like this one on your pages.
