We have all heard it at one point or another, we all need a mentor. Someone who can help us get us to the next level. I have looked for a mentor for a long time. I tested different people, but could never find what I was looking for. I have been looking for someone who understands social media and how to apply this to small businesses. This person also needed to be able to transfer the knowledge to me in such a way that I could understand how to apply it to my existing business. This last part has been a real problem. Most of the people that I found to be knowledgeable in the social media landscape, would tell me to completely start over and forget not only what I already knew (which I was fine with), but also to abandon my websites and start over. This was not acceptable to me. There should be more than one way to run a business. I decided that if I could not apply their knowledge to my existing business, their approach was not what I was looking for.
Now I am glad I kept looking. Because I found the absolute expert in social media and he is a spectacular teacher on top of it. His name is Simon U. Ford. If you are not familiar with him, I guarantee you that will change. Simon is about to break through online. He has taught me so much in the last several months, it is incredible. I followed his 10wk course and now, I have a social media business plan in place, build around my existing business, just like I was looking for. I have a thorough understanding of what social media to use to build up my list (of followers/friends) and what social media to use to deepen my relationships with the prospects that I find on that list. By following his ideas, I already have a relationship of trust with the people that enter into my sales funnel. This makes doing business much easier and a lot more fun. It really does not feel like selling any longer. It feels more like talking to friends and suggesting what is best for them.
I will share as much as possible of what I have learnt with all of you through this blog. So keep coming back. I encourage you to leave comments. Tell me what you think of my findings and also let me know if there are any particular questions you would like to see answered.
