In my last post I wrote to you about the details you need to pay attention to when uploading a video to YouTube or any of the other video sites. Today I would like to talk to you about some simple tricks that you can follow to get unlimited traffic to your website using videos.
For the last few years many marketers have told you that you just have to put some videos on YouTube and you will receive unlimited traffic to your website. I am not so sure that has ever been true, but it certainly is not true today. You can still get a lot of traffic to your website, but you do need to pay attention to more details if your purpose for the video is website traffic.
To start with you need to do your keyword research, just like you would for an article. Similar to articles, keyword phrases that are less competitive will make it easier for your videos to rank higher in YouTube and other video platforms. The higher you rank the more visibility and the more traffic. Same as anything else on the web.
Once you have decided on your keyword, and you have uploaded your video, you need to fill out the title, description and tags for the video (see the previous blog post for details if you are not sure what I am talking about). It goes without saying that you have to put your main keyword in all three fields. But that is not all.
By choosing the best tags you will make it a lot easier for people to find your video. So, how do you know what the best tags for your video are? I made a quick video how I find the best tags for my videos:
Tags are not the only thing you can do to get more views. Obviously sharing your videos will help as well. YouTube makes it easy with the share button below the video. Just click on share and you can choose from many social media platforms. The more you spread the word the better your chances for more traffic.
Submitting your videos to YouTube has the advantage that YouTube gets a unlimited traffic, is high PR and owned by Google. This provides significant opportunity for you to piggy back on their success and claim some of the traffic for your videos.
The problem with YouTube is that there is a lot of distraction on the page. I am sure you remember that list of suggestions that YouTube lists to the right of your video. After using the top right corner for your video title and description, and training the viewers to go there for more info, they are now using this prime position to advertise other, related, videos. This means significant risk that your visitor is clicking on a link that is not yours.
There is a way to reduce the risk of loosing your visitor. If the videos YouTube suggests are also yours, they may click on a link that leads them to another video, but since this one is also yours, you have the opportunity to start building a relationship and establishing your authority in your niche.
Sounds great, but how do you make that happen? Right? This is easier than you may think. I have noticed that if a viewer goes to another one of my videos right after watching through the first one, YouTube will associate this footprint as relevant to the first and will start showing the second video in the suggestions list. The more videos from your account your visitors watch, the more videos by you will show in the suggestions list.
If you use this opportunity correctly, you are significantly increasing your chances of turning a lead into a prospect and to show your authority in your field. Needless to say, that it may be helpful to start the process of building a relevant suggestions list yourself…
I am sure these tips will help you get unlimited traffic to your website. Let me know if these tips are helpful. Do you have any other tips that you use to get more traffic to your website with videos? I am looking forward to hearing from you.
