As most of you probably know, the CommentLuv plugin is a very popular WordPress plugin. The reason is the fact that each comment provides you with 2 one-way links back to your site. One goes to the home page of your blog, the other goes to the URL where your most recent blog post resides.
The link to the blog post has the added advantage that the anchor text consists of the title of the blog post. This means that the anchor text is highly relevant to your blog, and changes with each new blog post you publish.
The link to the home page of your blog has your name as the anchor text. For some that is all they want, but for most it would be much more beneficial if the anchor text would contain the primary keyword of your blog. CommentLuv has a solution for this as well. You can submit your name followed by ‘@’ and your keyword phrase. For example, I use Karin@social bookmarking. This method significantly improves the relevancy of the one-way backlink to your blog.
All this is only true if the blog in question is a “do-follow” blog. This means that the links are actually followed by the search engines. A WordPress blog, unfortunately, is no-follow by default. You have to use a plugin to change it. I wrote a post a while back about how to find out if a blog is no-follow and how to change the settings on your own blog. The blog post, I am talking about, is “Unlimited traffic to your website from comments – is your blog setup properly?”
Before I continue, I would like to point out, that even if a blog uses the no-follow tag, it is still beneficial to leave a comment. Especially if the blog gets a lot of traffic. After all, anyone who reads your comment can click on the link to come to your blog. The only thing is that you will not get the backlinks you would otherwise have gotten.
Let’s go back to CommentLuv comments. It has happened to me, and I have occasionally noticed this with others also, that the CommentLuv plugin seems to have a problem finding your most recent blog post. There are several possible causes for this. One is that your rss feed is not working properly. Another is that you misspelled the URL of your blog. If both are working ok, than it might be that CommentLuv banned your URL.
This does not mean that you are accused of spamming or any other unwanted behavior. As a matter of fact I suspect that this may happen for the very simple reason that you need to sign up for CommentLuv’s (free) membership to get the issue addressed. I made the following video to show you what I am talking about.
The link I am talking about in the video is http://ComLuv.com/members/unban-URL
Hope this helps you get the most out of your comments on blogs that use the CommentLuv plugin.
