We all know how hard it can be to promote your business online. Especially, if you do not already have a large audience. Pinterest is among the fastest growing social media sites around these days, which makes it the perfect platform to use for your business. I am not sure if it is because the site is still fairly new, but Pinterest users are very active. Recent data shows that the average Pinterest user spends about fifteen minutes a day on the site. An excellent statistic for a site that is only a year old. The one thing you do need to realize is that the demographics of the site is fairly narrow. The vast majority of Pinterest users is female and between the ages of 25 and 35. In other words Pinterest is geared towards buyers, because that is exactly what this group is known for.

But Pinterest has more to offer than a huge audience and dense demographics. If you open a channel for your business on Pinterest, they give you access to a great collection of analytics tools completely free of charge. You will be able to use these tools to check how many visitors you are sending to your site from Pinterest, how much traffic is being directed to your Pinterest channel, and where the traffic is coming from. In other words, you have all the tools to find out who is promoting your business, which means you can contact them to see if there is anything else they need for their promotion. This, I am sure, will lead to an even bigger effort by this person.

Pinterest would not be a serious site if you could not run a contest on it. Make sure to include prizes, your products, and direct people to your website to see if they have won and how to collect the prize. Even better is to have provide their email so you can communicate who the winners are.

Just like YouTube, Pinterest provides a perfect opportunity to show people that you are a real person. Take some pictures of your office, your employees etc, to show them who you are and where you work. This provides the human side of your operation, which makes them realize that they can build a relationship with a human being. It also gives them some insight in your background.

The other nice thing about the popularity of Pinterest is that you now have another platform to communicate with your prospects. The more platforms you can be found on the better it is for your business. It goes without saying that in order to be found you need to link between the platforms. There are many opportunities to do so. Pinterest itself allows you to send out a tweet about a new pin, and Facebook has an app that makes it possible to show your ‘pins’ on your Facebook business page.
