Pinterest is on the move

Pinterest is on the move

In 3 months time Pinterest has surpassed YouTube, Twitter and all but 2 other social media platforms when it comes to referring traffic to your website.

  • Find out why this is so important and why every internet marketer needs to pay close attention…

I am sure you have heard of Pinterest. It is taking the internet by storm. The numbers are staggering. Let’s take a look at some of them. To begin with, according to Statcounter, Pinterest is now the 3rd best platform to provide referrals to your site, behind StumbleUpon and Facebook. They achieved this amazing statistic in 3 months time!

As you can see in the above picture, this means that they can be sending more traffic your way than YouTube, LinkedIn and MySpace together! The critical question obviously is the quality of the referrals. New data have just been released about Pinterest that claims that 21% of Pinterest users have bought items seen on other people’s Pinboards.

Shopify recently examined sales data  for 25,000 stores and found that the average order from traffic coming from Pinterest was $80, which is higher than Google, Amazon, Yahoo and Bing, and double that of Facebook and every other social media site. They also reported that buyers who came from Pinterest are 10% more likely to buy than those coming from other social media sites. This number increases to 70% (!) when you compare visitors coming from Pinterest to those coming from a regular website. By the way this also means that there is a 60% increase in likelyhood of buying when coming from other social media sites. Clearly the relationships and trust that are being build on the social media platforms help the buying process.

To top it all off, Pinterest just secured $100 million in financing showing how serious this new comer needs to be taken. So the question is: “Are you using Pinterest?” Do you know how to become a super Pinterest user? If you don’t, don’t worry I will devote several posts on this platform to help you understand how to best take advantage of this new social media site.
