There are over 200 million users on Twitter already and that number keeps growing. If you are in internet marketing I am sure you realize this and have set up at least one Twitter account. The question is have you set it up the right way. Here are 3 tips to make sure that you optimize the return from Twitter traffic.
- Tip 1. When you click on ‘profile’ in the toolbar at the top of the screen you are taken to the Twitter page that holds all kinds of information on you and your account. Under the profile tab in your settings you can choose your main site, which will be displayed right under your biog.
So far, I realize I am not telling you anything new. However, what I see most people do, is simply add their home page. This is fine if you have an opt in box on that page, but for some reason most people don’t. Make sure that you send your Twitter followers to a page where they can opt in to your list.
Even if you have an opt in form on your home page, it is a good idea to not use that link. If you want to measure how many subscribers you get from this link on Twitter, it is much easier to send them to a page that is dedicated to visitors from Twitter.

Tip 2. In the above tip I mentioned your bio. Clearly an important part of your Twitter presence. By filling out this piece of information, not only are you sending the message to your followers that you take Twitter seriously, but it is also an opportunity to advertise your business.
The bio can only be 71 characters long, so you cannot say too much, but rather than just mentioning a few superficial things, take this opportunity to let your followers know how you can help them. Make your bio a call to action.
Tip 3. Your profile consists of 5 categories. Messages (called the ‘timeline’), your favorites, your followers, the ones you follow and any lists you may have put together. From these items the one used the least is the favorites tab.
This is a shame, because it is a great opportunity to promote you and your business further. Think about the impact it can have, if you favorite those tweets where people say something nice about you or your brand.
I hope these tips were helpful for you. Leave a comment and let me know what you think of these tips. Also if you have other tips that might be helpful to others I encourage you to post them here as well.
To your success,
