We all know that video marketing is a great way to attract social traffic to your website. That is one of the reasons why I spent the last two post on the details of doing it right.
In this post I would like to discuss with you why it is that video marketing is so effective. First of all, let’s agree that you will receive the most organic traffic from the search engines if you make it to the top of page 1 in Google. A fellow marketer recently made the case that the top spot on page 1 in Google means that you get 40% of the traffic that comes to that page.
That is a lot of traffic, especially if you are in a competitive niche. I am not telling you any news when I tell you that the down side is that it will be extremely difficult to achieve that top spot because of all the competition.
Let’s take a look at a search result in Google for the highly competitive keyword phrase “article marketing tips”. At the time of this blog post Google has 87.6 million results for this keyword phrase. The results look like this:
Which listing on this search page stands out the most for you. I agree, not the number one result, but the videos. Even though they are not in the top three search results for the keyword phrase, they stand out and get clicked a lot. I suspect that for search pages with video on them, the percentage of clicks on the number one link is less than the average 40%. Simply because the video listing draws attention.
In this scenario, it is a fantastic way to get ranked and “seen” in the search engines, without having to grab the first or second spot on the page. In other words, it is a lazy way to get people to find your content, since you “only” have to do just enough to make it onto page one.
Essentially, the technique shown is utilizing the fact that YouTube is part of Google. Google, not unlike any other online marketing company, likes to have their own content to show up high in searches.
As a result of this approach a little extra work can go a long way. You can rank well in Google, by doing a little extra work. I like to use social bookmarking sites, pinging and some links to other YouTube videos. When you do this, you can oftentimes easily rank well for major keyword phrases. Those with the high competition and lots of competing pages.
Clearly, I believe that you should publish your videos on YouTube. Does that mean that you should ignore all the other video sites? Not in my opinion. Every site you put your video on, means another backlink and more exposure for your website. Besides, it will be easier to find your video back on some of the smaller video platforms, than it is on YouTube.
So what do you do? Are you using multiple video platforms to publish your videos. If you are not yet using video marketing has this video marketing series helped you decide to give it a try? I love to hear from you. Let us know your thoughts. And, of course, suggestions are always welcome.
